Peyronie’s Disease – Stretching To Relieve Penis Curvature

Peyronie’s disease is a disease of the penis which involves growth of fibrous plaques or nodules in the connective tissue of the penis. Penis has many layers and in this disease condition, thick sheath called tunica albuginea which surrounds the corpora cavernosa is affected. The erectile tissue is enveloped by the scar tissue as a result of inflammation. This scar tissue may develop in the top layer or bottom layer of the penis. There are various treatment options available for treating Peyronie’s disease such as medications, radiation therapy, shock wave lithotripsy, surgeries, counseling, stretching devices, and exercises.

Medications used in the treatment of this disease are corticosteroid injections, potaba, verapamil, vitamin E along with colchine, interferon alpha 2b, sildanefil, and paraaminobenzoate tablets. Radiation therapy is also used in some cases, but it is not very popular due to its side effects. Shock wave lithotripsy provides relief to some extent. Iontophoresis is also done to increase the absorption of drugs into the system. Surgeries such as nesbit operation, leriche technique, plication,  excision grafting, and prosthetic implantation are used to treat severe deformities.
